What is Ash Wednesday and Lent?

Lent is the 40 days, not counting Sundays, before Easter. This year Easter falls on April 1, which means that today, Ash Wednesday, is the first day in Lent! We invite you to join us for a simple meal at 6:00 PM followed by worship in our sanctuary at 6:40 or so. We will sing, read scripture, hear our handbell choir perform the piece Dies irae, and be signed with ashes on our foreheads.

Lent is a season in which Christians reflect on Jesus's sacrifice for our sins on the cross. We practice our faith more intentionally. We remember that we are dust, and to dust we shall return. Awareness of our mortality leads us to make the most of our days doing good. We try not to fritter away our precious time and resources on things that do not matter.
